A Tip Shaper that REALLY works!

Over the years, I've tried all sorts of different Tip Shapers, but each one has had something that I didn't like about it (sometimes, way more than one thing I didn't like!). Finally, with the help of Kenny Murrell, I believe I can offer the LAST Tip Shaper that you will ever need to buy! To be more precise, the Tip Shaper that I'm offering for sale is actually TWO Shapers...one for Heavy Duty work and the other for Lighter Touch-up work and for scuffing.

Now for those of you who like tips with a Nickel radius (0.4063 in. [10.32 mm]) or with a Quarter radius (0.4688 in. [11.91 mm]) this is the wrong Tip Shaper for you....it only comes in a dime radius (0.375 in. [9.525 mm]). OK, so why a DIME RADIUS? Well, no real scientific reason other than over the years I've discovered (as have an awful lot of Pro Players) that using a dime radius keeps a tip from mushrooming longer, imparts Side Spin (English) easier, and helps minimize miscuing  better than any other tip radius (IMHO). If you already use a dime radius, you have already discovered these "truths", if you haven't switched yet, this might be the perfect time to try something new!

If you're looking for a Tip Shaper that is beautiful, polished, engraved or made from some exotic, high-tech material, you'll have to go somewhere else to find it. These shapers are FUNCTIONAL and should last a lifetime with careful use. They are made to my specification by Kenny Murrell in his shop in Swansea Ill. and are exclusively distributed by Wolfbite Cue Solutions. Kenny makes these out of Maple and occasionally, other varieties of hardwoods, so when you order a set, you may very well be surprised with one or both pieces made out of something exotic...but don't hold your breath, or be disappointed if they arrive in Maple....after all they are TOOLS not "works of art" :-)

The longer of the two shapers is for "Heavy Duty" work and can shape flat top tips (either new or abused) in a very short time. It is used with a long stroke (the shaper is 3.5 inches long) while applying medium pressure and turning the shaft to avoid an uneven radius on your tip. It also has a piece of fine grained leather glued on one side to burnish the sides of your tips to keep them smooth and shiny.

The shorter of the two shapers is perfect for "Light Duty" work like scuffing and gentle reshaping "in the field". At 2 inches, it is the perfect size to fit in your accessory pouch or to keep in your pocket. A couple of quick, light back and forth strokes while rotating the shaft (or rotate the tool over the tip like you're unscrewing a bottle cap while keeping the shaft stationary) and your tip is perfectly scuffed and back to a dime radius with a minimum of leather removed. I also use this tool to chamfer the edge of my tips by placing it at a 45 degree angle to the edge of the tip while rotating the shaft. This slight chamfer on the edge eliminates those sharp edges that are produced when you shape your tips or when they begin to mushroom. I find that chamfering the edges virtually eliminates my tips from snagging on the inside of my Instroke case and along with the dime radius, virtually eliminates any mushrooming (or at least minimizes it!).

Both shapers use incredibly durable, coated sanding belt material (different grit size for each) that should last a lifetime, assuming of course that you only use it to shape leather tips!. I have personally used one set of these shapers on well over 300 tips to date with no appreciable wear to either of the shapers....they are built TOUGH! There are plenty of prettier, smaller, complicated, and more "high-tech" shapers for sale out there, but in my opinion, none are more functional or durable then these....OK, I guess I'm a bit biased about these, but I think you'll agree once you try them :-)
